Membership

If you'd like to join us, we'd love to hear from you!

We rehearse at 8:00pm on Thursdays during term time at St Leonard's Church, Cambridge Road, Horsham  RH13 5ED. Rehearsals including a tea break and we do ask that you observe our current Covid-19 mitigation measures.

Musicality, balance, and ensemble are every bit as important to a chamber choir, like ours, as hitting the right notes at the right time. We are very keen to welcome new members who share our enthusiasm for chamber music and all the rewards it brings, both through commitment to weekly rehearsals and the thrill of performance.

If you are interested in joining the choir, please drop the Secretary an email and come along to two or three rehearsals to see if you like what we do. We operate a ‘buddy’ system for potential new members, so that there is always someone on hand to make sure you have the music you need and that you can ask if anything isn’t quite clear.

Our auditions are not too formal. You will meet our conductor, Timothy Peters and he will ask you to perform some vocal exercises and discuss your experience of the pace and level of rehearsal, vocal range, and preferred voice part.  This will help him to understand your current ability, potential, and ‘fit’ within the choir. Similarly, you may want to ask about the choir’s aspirations and future plans – it’s a two-way street. Timothy will then let you know the outcome of the audition within a couple of days and approval by the committee should follow shortly thereafter.

Rehearsals

Rehearsals start promptly at 8pm, or notified time if different, and are spread over 3 terms of about 12 weeks each: Autumn, Spring, Summer.  Tea and coffee is provided, free of charge, during a short break and rehearsals end at 10pm. There is usually a social ‘get-together’ at the Black Jug in Horsham following Thursday rehearsals, which you are very welcome to join.

Concerts

We perform three main concerts each year in late November, March and June and a concert of carols and readings just before Christmas.  We use St Mary’s Church and St John’s RC Church in Horsham for concerts and also perform in other venues from time to time. There is always a compulsory rehearsal on Concert day.

Subscriptions

The annual subscription for adults is £200, under-25s pay £100 and students in full-time education may join free of charge.  The annual subscription is payable in full in September and is charged pro rata if you join at another time of the year.  Any problems? Please ask the Treasurer.

Music

The cost of music is not included in the annual subscription. The Librarian will ask choir members well in advance whether they would prefer to buy the music, or hire it for a fee – the choice is yours.
